Why must we honor the Sabbath and not desecrate it like the churches are doing?

As the parable of weeds narrated in Matt 13 illustrates, one of the tell-tale evidences of Anti Christs is supplanting lies in order that he may change the set times and laws of God.  Also refer Jn 8:44.

Dan 7:25 testifies, “He will speak against the Most High and oppress His saints and try to change the set times and the laws…..”

This is what we have all been undeniably witnessing since the time we were born.  A mad rush for change!  And if we trouble ourselves to look closely they are mostly changes to counter the changes previously made.  Which means more lies to counter existing lies.

In other words we live in a time of increasing chaos and confusion where that which was preordained or preset by God appears to be utterly lost!

Chaos and confusion, like divisions and delusions, are owing to man’s willful rebellion and disobedience.  Followed by total depravity, they seal our misfortune forever.

The question therefore is, to whom do we turn to for absolute Truth?  And the answer is, turn to the Lord.  Yes, inquire of the Lord.  “Should not a people inquire of the Lord?” (Isa 2:19).

How?  And why?  By the Holy Spirit: “..how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!” (Lk 11:13b).  Because it is His unfailing promise that the Holy Spirit will guide us into all Truth (Jn 16:13).

The ministry of the Holy Spirit is the ministry of God as Jesus Christ has Himself exemplified to us.  Like the Son of God, the Spirit of God does not speak on His own but speaks only that which is given.  Refer Jn 7:18, “He who speaks on his own does so to gain honor for himself, but he who works for the honor of the One who sent him is a man of truth, there is nothing false about him.”

If we partake of the Holy Spirit, which is the Living Water, we will never thirst again (Jn 4:14).  There will be no room for chaos, confusions or contradictions in our life.  And what’s more?  It will well up to eternal life in us.  It is the power of God (2 Cor 10:5).

Therefore understand what the Lord means when He exhorts, “‘In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength, BUT YOU WOULD HAVE NONE OF IT.’ “ (Isa 30:15).

For if we had, we’d have then truly understood what is meant by Sabbath or the Rest of God.  Or what is meant by “Worship the Lord Your God, AND SERVE HIM ONLY.” (Matt 4:10); and the full implication of “Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you REST.  Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and YOU WILL FIND REST for your souls.  For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” (Matt 11:28-30).

I have heard fools announce that God was tired after six days of creation work so He needed to rest!  On the contrary God created the seventh day, blessed it and set it apart as holy to teach man about His Salvation and His Rest – the eternal rest of God which He has MADE AVAILABLE FOR MAN.

FOR THE WORD OF GOD TESTIFIES THAT HE IS AT WORK TO THIS VERY DAY (Jn 5:17) AND THAT HE WHO WATCHES OVER HIS PEOPLE NEITHER SLUMBERS NOR SLEEPS (Ps 121:4).  ISN’T THAT THE REASON THE PHARISEES COULD NOT SUCCEED IN PREVENTING JESUS FROM TEACHING GOD’S WORD, FROM HEALING THE SICK AND DELIVERING THE NEEDY EVEN ON THE SABBATH?  ISN’T THAT THE REASON JESUS REPRIMANDED THE DISCIPLES WHEN THEY BEGAN TO DOUBT HIM BELIEVING THAT HE WAS FAST ASLEEP WHILE THE WINDS LASHED AT THEIR BOAT MERCILESSLY?

Surely then, how can we pretend to honor the Lord of the Sabbath (Matt 12:8) by desecrating the Sabbath?  To honor Sabbath is to honor the Lord of the Sabbath.  It is to proclaim Salvation, the eternal rest and deliverance of God for mankind.

It is to proclaim that the Eternal Sabbath-rest will come to pass when all things would have been accomplished or fulfilled (eg. Jn 19:30, Rev 16:17 etc.), when at last Salvation is consummated with the revelation of the children of God (Rom 8:19-22, Rev 21:5).

This Eternal Sabbath-rest will begin on a Sabbath day of the Lord.  Then all the other days with whatever they represented will disappear for ever (eg. Rev 21:1, 4, 23 etc.).  Only the eternal Sabbath Day of the Lord will remain, ceaselessly, for ever.

Finally, if you find counting the days of week confusing and are not sure where to begin, then let me remind you that  Sunday is the first day of the week.  As the name suggests, it is also the proof of man’s idolatrous reverence to the sun, which is the greater light that governs ‘Day’ (as opposed to ‘Night’), both of which were created by God on the FIRST DAY (Gen 1:3-5 & 16).

Churches may have renamed Sunday, the first day, as the ‘Lord’s Day’ and replaced it with the original Sabbath day.  But it was only to mislead men into following their teachings and their idolatry.  The Truth is that Sabbath is not meant for man to do as he wishes with it.  Read Isa 56:1-9 for instance.

Let us not forget that God’s Word teaches that the Lord’s Day is the Sabbath (Matt 12:8), the seventh day.  Therefore abide by the Truth.  Because this is also the Day of His Second Coming.  Read Zech 14 and understand it.  For you’d have only deceived yourself if you desecrate the Sabbath and yet hope to be united with Him at His Coming.
