What is the full implication of the word “Son” in the term ‘Son of man’ when used  in reference to Jesus Christ, the Son of God?

Let us understand the full implications of the Word “Son” in the divine term “the Son of man” used in reference to Jesus Christ, the Only begotten Son of God:

Having already clarified the true implication of the otherwise much misinterpreted Word ‘man’ in the said divine term, it is time I start hitting home the nail of truth concerning the Word “Son” also.

At the outset, let us recall that spiritually speaking the word “son” means “the heir”.   As such, it has got nothing to do with the gender of the beholder for God is Spirit and therefore physical attributes do not pertain either to God or to the godly.

This is why “the Son of God” means “the Heir of God”, and it is the reason why Jesus is called the Only Begotten Son of God for He was and is the Only Heir of God.

However, God by His great and awesome power has ordained that man may partake of the divine “heir-ship” so that we who are now separated from Him because of our sins may forever be restored to Him by the holy Covenant of His Blood TO BE MADE HOLY AND CALLED SONS AND CO-HEIRS WITH CHRIST (Matt 13:37-38a, Matt 13:43).

Consequently, as it has been revealed since the beginning Jesus Christ is also the Firstborn over all creation (Col 1:15).

In other words, it is also the holy confirmation of our surpassing Calling!  For, this is the reason or the knowledge by which Abel glorified the Son by offering some of the “firstborn” of his flock and thereby winning the favor of God in so acknowledging the Word and glorifying Him who Alone is worthy of all glory.

Likewise, the term “the Son of man” means exactly the same!

That Jesus Christ is the Heir and the Firstborn of man (Ps 89:27).  For having been conceived of the Holy Spirit, in Him is first fulfilled the pre-ordained purpose of God which was to raise godly offspring from among man (Mal 2:15a).

On the other hand, man, who had from the very beginning sought to rebel against God, have only succeeded in harvesting wind for all their troubles!   Refer Isa 26:18, “We were with child, we writhed in pain, but we gave birth to wind. We have not brought salvation to the earth….”

Indeed, it is just as the Word of God states, “Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit..” (Jn 3:6) and “The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing..” (Jn 6:6).

Therefore while He who is born of the Spirit lives on, they that are born of the flesh return to dust!

However, be sure, they that believe in Him and are “born again” of the Spirit and the Word (Jn 3:5-7) and live the new life of the Spirit, bearing the good and lasting fruits of the Spirit, will likewise live on, because the Second Death or the Eternal Death will have no power over them (Rev 20:6).

Just as it was demonstrated by the Son of God when on the third day He rose from the dead – thus revealing Himself to be also the Firstborn from the dead (Col 1:18, Rev 1:5).

And thus, they shall also be called the “sons” of God.  “Because those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.” (Rom 8:14).

What’s more?   If sons, then heirs too.  “Now if we are children, then we are heirs – heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in His sufferings in order that we may also share in His glory.” (Rom 8:17).

And they shall only be given birth to (Isa 66:7-11), which spiritually speaking means “be revealed” at the Second Coming of the Lord in all His glory (Rom 8:18).  For it is not the work of the flesh but of the Spirit, and therefore the Lord Almighty Himself will accomplish it at the Appointed Time.

For eg., read Isa 42:13-17, “The Lord will march out like a mighty man, like a warrior He will stir up His zeal; with a shout He will raise the battle cry and will triumph over His enemies. ‘For a long time I have kept silent, I have been quiet and held Myself back. But now, like a woman in childbirth, I cry out, I gasp and pant. I will lay waste the mountains and hills and dry up all the vegetation; I will turn rivers into islands and dry up the pools. I will lead the blind (meaning the spiritually blind) by ways they have not known, along unfamiliar paths I will guide them; I will turn the darkness into light before them and make the rough place (meaning teaching of men that cause us to stumble and fall) smooth. These are the things I will do; I will not forsake them. But those who trust in idols, who say to images, “You are our gods,’ will be turned back in utter shame.’”
